After connecting with a Peace Corps worker in Mboro, a small coastal mining town in adjoining Senegal, however, they connected with a small Catholic school there whose administrator had been looking for a way to supply computers to his students. Their grant had been set up in collaboration with Luxenberg's brother, Seth Luxenberg '08, an administrator with the Peace Corps in Mauritania.īut when the students arrived in Rwanda for a training session, they found that for political reasons, Mauritania would not issue visas to Americans. This is truly crappy support from Brother.A team of Cornell students who set out last summer to deliver laptop computers to children in Africa has returned to report a job well done - although not exactly the job they had planned.Įli Luxenberg '10 and James Elkins '11, both information science majors, received a grant of $10,000 from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Foundation to deliver 100 XO laptops to Tidjikja, Mauritania, on the west coast of Africa. Not the old ones I had from before i got the Windows 10 laptop when my old laptop died recently. I just tried this and it did not work for me. And voila! When I went to PED-Basic and opened the folder where I saved the "converted" file, there it was!! Now I can use all those pes files that seemed like they were incompatible! Hope this helps others! I went to file / "save as" - entered a modified name of the file (to preserve the original) and selected Brother pes from the file type options provided. I opened the PES file that I can't view through the PED-Basic software. Here is what I did: I installed inkscape (free) and the extension ink/stitch. You essentially have to save the new file as an older version (similar to saving a docx file to a doc so that older versions of software can read the document file). Newer files may not be compatible with the old PED-Basic. But makers are still putting out PES files. I experienced this same issue and found what worked for me. I picked up an old Brother PE-180D that uses the PED-Basic software.
